25th February
Today was finally the day I could take Josh surfing and bonus, it wasn’t raining. We hired out surfboards along with two of our hostel friends – Jonas and Cameron. Josh got given an 8ft and I tried out a 7ft foamy.

Having the Main beach as our base I showed Josh how to stand up on the sand first and then just shoved him in the water telling him when to paddle and stand up. These waves were crashy and powerful so I struggled but Josh picked it up, definitely beginners luck tied in with his snowboarding experience. After a mornings surf our two friends headed back as one was leaving and after our picnic we headed over to Clark’s beach. The waves were smaller, rolling and more of them. This was where I stood up yay!

Once back at the hostel we dried off and headed off for a romantic evening/sunset walk along the beach to the lighthouse before dinner. The rain and clouds continued to be distant – bonus! following our footsteps we walked along Main beach, Clark’s beach and to the Pass for the lookout. There were more surfers out today aswell.

All the time we walked I scanned for Dolphins but, it wasn’t till I stopped looking walking passed Wategoes Bay did I spot them. Around 6+ were hunting and surfing the waves – Josh was very excited as it was his first time seeing wild Dolphins.

We watched them until they disappeared around the headland and we continued the steep steps and climb to the lighthouse.

Once at the lighthouse we stopped and watched the sunset over Byron Bay. It was very beautiful and we didn’t want to leave.

It wasn’t until we realised the time that we dragged ourselves on to the next half of the walk. This meant we still managed to catch the sunset over Tallow beach. The colours were awesome.

It was now starting to get dark so we bypassed Captain Cooks lookout and walked through a spooky forest. The notices that were around us and the shadows were making us speed up abit especially with Joshs ‘what if a snake bites us’.

No panic though Josh as we did make it back in one piece. Haha.
