23rd March

Today we booked a surfing lesson – Joshs first one – which took place on Double Point. Driving in a 4X4 through The Great Sandy National Park – pretty much just a forest. We arrived to a vast expanse of flat(ish) sea and sand.

The waves were long waves and both of us stood up multiple times. Another cool thing we managed to do today was a few party waves – we both caught the same wave and rode it right to shore.

Afterwards we ate lunch on Double Point beach and drove back via the Rainbow Cliffs. Me and Josh wanted to walk back so they dropped us off and headed back – due to a rock fall blocking the cars path.

This was a long but, very cool walk – so many different colours in the sands (I believe it’s something like 72 types). Again being so remote and out of site we sat down and splashed in the sea.

There were also thousands of Ghost Crabs – making all these patterns in the sand with the balls of sand brought up from their holes. Every day after the tides washed the sand back in the crabs have to dig their holes again and again. Poor things.

Walking back we had to walk up a sand dune to get over to the main beach and town. This dune was Carlo Blow Sands and favours with its view of the bay. This was incredible and definitely worth while especially (once again) at sunset.
