Australia

20th February

We started off our day on a breakfast of pear and raspberry banana bread bought yesterday. Yummy! Our travel plans were to go to Morton Island so, we chatted to a travel agent who told us the weather was rubbish for Mortan and for us to go to Byron bay. We agreed to follow her advice and so booked our Byron bay experience.

As it was a sunny day we decided to have a picnic at Kangaroo Point on the way to South Bank lagoon. We hadn’t explored Kangaroo Point apart from our cycle previously so off we went along the rivers boardwalk.

Walking for a longer time than we thought it was now started to get really hot. Coming across a water fountain Josh couldn’t help but mess around to keep cool.

Boys will be boys!

Continuing walking we suddenly arrived at New Farm Park… right where we were yesterday. This is where our spence of direction and not paying attention took a hit. Instead of going over the bridge and right along the boardwalk there we went left before the bridge. Now miles away from Kangaroo Point. On exploring the park we came across the CityCat – a ferry. This was bliss as it took us right along the river.

Finally we ended up at Kangeroo Point, via this ferry and the City Hopper (a free ferry). Seeing how it could be a popular place for sunset and BBQs it is a must do for another time. Walking through this park we could see rock climbers on Kangaroo Cliffs and we walked passed a wedding.

Now being much later on in the day we sat in the shade of a tree instead of the sunny picnic bench. Josh even spotted a water dragon sitting underneath the bench which was cool to see. Everything was chilled until Josh suddenly sprang up and moved away. On asking what was wrong all I got in reply was Lizard. I looked around and the lizard had run closer to us but, had stopped. I continued to sit there when it ran onto our stuff, at which point I got up and moved away. Once moved away all the lizard did was eat our crumbs and use our rucksack as a warming rock.

After we managed to collect all our stuff back in we caught the ferry (zero walking for us now) to the lagoon. Wondering pass some gym equipment Josh jumped at the chance off using it. There were also loads of giant bean pods on the floor.

On approach South Bank we could see the side we hadn’t been to yet. Here there were more restaurants and bars with a nice grassy picnic green you could sit and have takeaways aswell as an insane view of the city.

As soon as we got to the lagoon we jumped in the water, messing around and laughing. Here we stayed for the rest of the evening including dinner. Our treat was fish and chips with a jug of cocktail.

Even the lagoon at night time made us want to go in!
