14th February
Being jet lagged we slept later than we wanted to. Although, no one in our room stirred before 2 every day anyway. Having missed the free breakfast we headed out into the city, wandering aimlessly due to no data untill we came across Queensland Mall. Being one of three Malls it was named the cultural outside mall and I ended up buying a cool cap as I kept wearing Joshs. My floppy sun hat was starting to annoy me. Josh also bought me a heart necklace – very cute considering the day.

Making our way through all the shops we ended up by Brisbane’s Botanical gardens – a park with ponds, playgrounds, a jungle and a riverside walk.

On walking through Brisbane rainforest jungle all we could hear is a humming insect we later found out were Cicarders. In some areas we couldn’t hear our own voices they were so loud. Josh also spied our first wild lizard on walking along the river (I think they are Eastern Water Dragons). I never realised Josh was so jumpy with animals before being out here. On either side of the river were mangroves holding the banks in place.

After walking around for a few hours it started to get dark and so we headed back along the river front to spy a restaurant for dinner.
As it’s Valentine’s Day we obviously had zero luck and ended up booking reservations at a restaurant called Fellons. It looked like a converted brewery barn that did stone cooked pizzas. After changing and putting bite cream on, the first of many of every kind of bite, we headed for our valentines pizza.

Choosing some local beers we sat out overlooking the bridge and river, the view was awesome and the lights in the tree made it look like something out of a story.

Afterwords we went for an explore along the river boardwalk to see the city at night. The reflection in the water were mesmerising and the chilled vibe was one I’ve never experienced before in a busy city.
